Living Map for RUH Bath
Living Map Deploys Solution for Essential Healthcare Workers
As the UK’s pandemic response evolved, Royal United Hospitals (RUH) Bath had just opened a new intensive care unit expanding from 14 beds to 27. There was a problem however. “It was apparent some [workers and volunteers] were having difficulty finding their way around an unfamiliar city easily,” notes Joanna Wright, a Liberal Democrat councillor on Bath and North East Somerset Council. “There was an urgent need to make sure these critical workers had access to clear directions.”
Living Map undertook a pro bono project to deliver a digital map of Bath and the RUH that curates the city’s businesses and amenities for the purpose of essential healthcare workers. Cycle shops and resources that have made services available to healthcare workers are highlighted, hospital entrances and hospital campus details are defined with a much higher level of fidelity than that of Google or Apple Maps, routes can be pre-generated and shared to help workers plan their commute.
Living Map is now exploring additional use-cases and capabilities with the RUH, Bath Council and the Bath BID to leverage their indoor and outdoor mapping and positioning capabilities to keep the Bath community and key workers informed of changes to traffic flow, congestion and pedestrian zones, and to help promote businesses as the city restarts.
“We are delighted to be supporting RUH Bath and the local community, with our digital services. We are able to help with several practical problems of visualising the locality whilst directing the footfall of different user groups and visitors. We look forward to building on the relationship in the coming months.” Dominic Hazlehurst CEO of Living Map.
“The team at Living Map were able to turn around this map promptly, enabling us to support our staff in their new journeys, often walking or cycling to site. The map brings together many of the additional supporting provisions for a user to feel confident on their new journey.” Cris Fletcher, Sustainable Travel Coordinator Estates and Facilities RUH Bath
