Accessibility Statement for Living Map Applications

This accessibility statement applies to Living Map’s digital mapping applications, and other web-based maps delivered by Living Map Limited.

Using these applications

These mapping applications are designed to help visitors navigate complex venues using interactive, browser-based maps. We aim to make these applications accessible to as many users as possible. This includes ensuring that users can:

  • zoom into maps using keyboard controls or screen gestures.
  • receive clear on-screen instructions and text labels.
  • use screen readers to understand navigational text where applicable.
  • adjust contrast and magnification settings via browser or device tools.

Where possible, we aim to follow Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA, as set out by the UK Government’s digital accessibility requirements. These guidelines help to ensure our content is:

Perceivable – Information and user interface components are presented in ways that users can perceive.

Operable – Users can navigate and interact with our content without difficulty.

Understandable – Information and operation of the interface are clear and intuitive.

Robust – Content is accessible to a wide range of assistive technologies and browsers.

How accessible these applications are

We know that some aspects of our mapping applications are not fully accessible:

  • Some interactive map controls and overlays may not be fully navigable via keyboard only.
  • Certain dynamic components (e.g. floor switching, live positioning) may not be compatible with screen readers.
  • Map elements may not always have sufficient contrast or descriptive ARIA labels.

Technical information about accessibility

Living Map Limited is committed to making its web-based applications accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance status

Our mapping applications are partially compliant with WCAG 2.2 AA, due to the non-compliances listed below.

Non-accessible content

The following areas do not yet meet accessibility standards:

  • Some interactive map tools are not operable using keyboard navigation alone (WCAG 2.1.1).
  • Certain graphical elements lack sufficient contrast or ARIA labelling (WCAG 1.4.3 and 4.1.2).

We are actively working on improvements as part of our product development lifecycle and aim to have these resolved by end of December 2025.

Ongoing monitoring and improvements

We test our mapping interfaces using a combination of automated tools (e.g. Lighthouse, Lambda Test) and manual reviews. We engage external accessibility consultants periodically and incorporate feedback from users with disabilities as part of our roadmap process. This statement was last reviewed on 19 June 2025 and will be updated at least annually.
