How Living Map transformed Edmonton’s Public Navigation Experience
Problem
Living Map partnered with the City of Edmonton to create a dynamic digital map that reflects the city’s distinct seasonal identity. Featuring interchangeable summer and winter stylesheets, real-time transport integration, and seamless mobile continuity, the solution provides residents and visitors with an accessible, responsive navigation experience across both public screens and personal devices.
Goal
The objective was to create a dynamic, seasonally responsive digital map that highlighted key attractions throughout the year. The solution needed to work across large public screens and mobile devices, while ensuring step-free accessibility for users of all mobility levels.
Approach
Living Map developed a digital map using open-source data with interchangeable seasonal stylesheets to reflect summer and winter activity. Five large-format interactive screens were installed at key city hubs, alongside a mobile version promoting cycling and walking routes. Real-time transport data was integrated, and QR codes enabled visitors to seamlessly transfer the map from screen to mobile.
